HALLOWEEN FACTS FOR A REAL HALLOWEEN SPIRIT!

HALLOWEEN ORIGINS- ALL SAINTS DAY
Between October 31st and November 2nd, people all around the world celebrate the spirit world in different ways. There are always strong links with those who have passed on.
All Saint’s Day, otherwise known as All Hallows Day, falls on November 1st. This is followed by All Soul’s Day on the 2nd November, also known as the Day of the Dead. People have celebrated these festivals since the 4th century. All Saints Day commemorates all the saints and martyrs, known and unknown. All Souls Day is a special day of remembrance for those loved ones who have passed.
Halloween was the start of these festivals, the evening of All Hallows. At midnight, people offered the first prayers to the dead. It was the start of this period of remembrance. Many communities also commemorated every person who had passed over the course of the previous year, by name.

PAGAN ORIGINS
The Celtic festival of Samhain which is pronounced Sah-win, goes back much further than All Saints Day. We can probably claim this is the real origin of Halloween! The Celts recognised this time as a shift of season, the line between summer and winter, between life and death, and therefore between our earthly realm and the underworld. In Ireland, some Neolithic tombs are aligned with the rise at Samhain.
At this important festival, burial mounds were opened. People lit huge bonfires to ward of evil spirits, and huge feasting took place. This was the time when the boundary between this world and the Otherworld thinned and the souls of those who had passed, as well as supernatural beings such as banshees and fairies, could come into our world easily. People left these other worldly beings offerings of food and drink, to ensure the people and their livestock survived the winter.

THE ORIGINS OF TRICK OR TREAT
At the time of Samhain, people donned animal skins and wore masks to ward off evil spirits. In the cold, dark night, with their bonfires, we can imagine the energy, the shadows, the stories!
But, according to historian Nicholas Rogers in a great article from Discover Magazine,“Trick-or-treating has roots in the medieval practice of “souling.” Poor supplicants went door to door, offering to pray for souls in purgatory in exchange for food (typically “soul cakes”). They often carried hollowed-out turnips with candles inside, the forebears of jack-o-lanterns.
In later years, especially in Ireland and Scotland, the occasion drew hordes of mischievous revellers to the streets. There, they played pranks, particularly on unlucky neighbours, especially ones they disliked! “Mimicking the malignant spirits who were widely believed to be abroad,” Rogers writes, “gangs of youths blocked up chimneys, rampaged cabbage patches, battered doors, unhinged gates, and unstabled horses.”

WORLDWIDE TRIBUTES TO THE DEAD
These days in many European countries, people make an effort to visit the resting places of their loved ones, offer them flowers and have some quiet moments of reflections with them. In France, Chrysanthemums are grown in abundance, so that these long-lasting flowers can be placed on the graves of lost loved ones.
One of the most well known festivals is the Brazilian Day of the Dead on November 2nd, where many Brazilians also visit their departed loved ones, light candles, leave flowers and also pray for their souls.
The USA celebrates Halloween most prolifically! But apparently, according to America’s Library, They tell us “For much of the 19th century and well into the 20th, Halloween was more trick than treat! Bands of mischief-makers roamed city streets and country roads blowing horns and vandalizing both residences and businesses. In addition to playing relatively harmless tricks, some pranksters caused major inconveniences. Often, special police were appointed to keep damage to a minimum!”
These days we know the warmer side of Halloween in the USA- thank goodness for that!

HALLOWEEN HORRORS!
The original film of “Halloween”, launched in 1978, on Halloween itself. But, did you know it was not originally called Halloween? Directed by John Carpenter, the film was originally destined to be called “ The Babysitter Murders.” The Producer suggested setting the movie on Halloween night and naming it Halloween instead, to which Carpenter agreed and developed a story. Carpenter said of the basic concept: “Halloween night. It has never been the theme in a film. My idea was to do an old haunted house film.”
Halloween is one of the most popular independent horror films ever made, grossing $70 million dollars at its launch.

HALLOWEEN SPIRIT VISITATIONS
Can the dead really visit us on Halloween? Are all these ancient customs that the dead can visit us at Halloween true? Well, what is true is that you are far more likely to be able to see a spirit or feel a connection when there is darkness and a certain temperature. This is simply because the external energies change and the energy is generally heavier than in the hot months of the year.
Spirits also travel easily where there is water (which could be underground as well as overground) or where there are certain magnetic fields, In the summer months, there is often less water and in many places the rains in Spring and Autumn, coupled with cool but not freezing weather, also mean there could be higher chances of a viewing or a connection.
In actual fact, there is no set date when a spirit can come to visit us. There are just certain conditions where we on the earth plane are more likely to be able to see or feel them. However, remember also that spirits do not just have one vibration. Like people, spirits have different energies and different vibrations. So, some spirits with heavier energy are more visible, some we are more likely to feel in our auric fields, and so forth,
Remember also that energy creates energy so with many people celebrating Halloween, people recalling their past loved ones and others doing cleansing rituals, this also creates a certain energy. One could say these things do help the veil between the spirit world and the earthly plane to get thinner, simply by global consciousness!

HALLOWEEN SPIRIT- THINGS TO DO TO GET INTO IT!
Between now and the end of November 2nd is an ideal time to use this energy to do something rewarding for you and your own soul!
Here are some ideas
FLOWERS FOR YOUR LOVED ONES
Having a vase of flowers at this time can be very rewarding. There are many beautiful shades and colours to choose from at the moment. Thinking of a past loved one, make yourself a little bouquet with love and with them in mind. Reflect on happy memories with them. Lighting a simple candle in memory of a lost loved one can also be a lovely thing to do.
LETTING GO RITUAL
This is an excellent time to take some downtime and concentrate of what you need to let go of. Thinking of things that no longer serve you. Write them down on a piece of paper. Then take a few moments to consciously let go of them. Now bring in peaceful thoughts. As you let go, know you are making room for new events, for abundance, for positivity this next period.
CONNECTING WITH SPIRIT
This is the perfect time for you to remember and connect with a beloved person who has passed on. To do this, begin with some protection. Here are some helpful tips. You may wish to say a prayer to the angels for protection, cleanse and hold a healing crystal, or light a white candle, asking for protection. Now sit in a comfortable position with your feet on the floor. Imagine yourself surrounded and covered in white light. Any and all of these are helpful.
Breathe quietly and then more deeply, and on each outbreath feel your neck, then shoulders, tummy, arms and legs relaxing. Take your time to feel at peace.
Now simply tell your loved one you are thinking of the, If you would like a sign then ask for that. Stay still, quietly breathing and do not rush.
Because of the difference of time in the spiritual planes and ours, it may be that you do not get your sign immediately, but some hours or even days later. Such signs may be seeing a feather falling out of nowhere, seeing a streak of silver light out of the corner of your eye, sensing their presence, feeling the person as you lie down to sleep and so forth. The important thing is to be conscious and look for the signs.
