What Is Reiki- The Answers are Here!
By Sophia Angelini, Pin 6921
What is Reiki? First of all, the word means Universal Life Force. This is the Life force which governs the natural order of everything within, upon and around the earth. This includes the magnetic energy field surrounding the earth, to which we ourselves are connected. Think of natural energies and the power they contain, such as the sea, the air and the earth itself. With these, you can begin to understand the types of powerful natural energies by which Reiki works.
When there is an imbalance of energy within the earth, naturally it will create a block in the flow to which the earth responds. We may experience this as natural disasters. But, in actual fact, the earth is a living organism and responds as such. Therefore, the natural law of cause and effect comes into being here, in its own unique and powerful ways.
REIKI SYMBOLS AND ATTUNEMENTS
Now to the question of what is Reiki and what can it mean for us? To fully use the energy of Reiki, it is necessary first of all to become attuned to Reiki energy. This happens through a process of attunements. It is a Reiki Master-Teacher that gives these. This is a person who was once a student themselves, who has passed various initiations to receive the Reiki energy via an attunement process. These include the introduction of various sacred symbol all connected with Reiki energy.
The interesting concept of this, is that all the symbols that are used represent the various movements of energy within and upon the earth. We can clearly see these from the air or in photos taken from a higher perspective. An example is the spirals that occur naturally in the sea connected to air currents.
These reiki symbols contain a power that we can harness for use in healing. Every symbol is unique in its own presentation and form. We also use the lightning bolt as another symbol in the Reiki attunement process. The Reiki Master usually draws from just above the head in a downward direction, along the back of a person or in this same way, downwards in a space clearing and empowering session.
The attunement process itself activates our natural receptive energies and helps clear any debris of energies to which we may have previously been connected. It can be quite a difficult process for those who have much to shift; however, the outcome is always for the higher good and leaves us with a clearer connection to Source, as well as clarity and peace of mind. Ultimately it improves our conscious connection overall with our health and wellbeing.
CAN ANYONE LEARN REIKI?
As a Reiki Master-Teacher myself, people often ask me if everyone can learn Reiki. My answer to that question is yes they can, but it will affect each person differently. We are all unique, in as much as we are all connected and our purpose on earth is ultimately the same; to bring peace to earth, to heal all imbalances where there is too much darkness, and to bring light. Where there is fear, we bring trust, where there is confusion; we bring clarity and peace of mind to the heart and soul.
I believe the energy of Reiki in its essence, is practiced by many indigenous peoples worldwide. It is well known, widely accepted and has been around since the beginning of time. In answer to the question therefore of ” What is Reiki,” to me it is simply tuning into and using natural energy in its purest and most natural form.
THE ORIGINS OF MASTER USUI
A Japanese man known as Master Usui first named Reiki. He had a profound vision after spending time alone in the wilderness, up a mountain in Japan. Here, he received spiritual instruction and enlightenment. This came from a natural power which was greater than himself. Thus, Master Usui brought the energy of Reiki into the consciousness of humankind.
In this way he developed a series of attunements. These raised the consciousness of each individual to a level of understanding that gave them the power to develop themselves. The basis was for people to use the energies to which they have been attuned. This is always for the Highest good of all. And these energies can also be used throughout time and space.
The more people attuned to Reiki who choose to participate in raising their conscious awareness, self healing and selfless compassion towards all living things, the better the world in which we live and the more our quality of life will change.
THE PRINCIPLES OF REIKI
There are a number of Reiki principles which students are encouraged to practice. Each is based on being and living in the present moment. There are two variations of these, the first including the Japanese Eastern version and the second adapted to the West.
Kyo dake wa – Just for today
Ikaru na – Do not be angry
Shin pai suna – Do not worry
Kan sha shi te – Be grateful
Gyo-o hage me – Take responsibility and fully do what you’re here to do
Hito ni shin setsu ni – Be kind to others
Western Version:
Just for today I will let go of anger.
Just for today I will let go of worry.
Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for today I will do my work honestly.
Just for today I will be kind to my neighbour and every living thing.
When we recite these words daily and perhaps in a repetitive way, we can really feel them inwardly. Thus, they become a ‘Mantra.’ We can use Mantras to live our lives with conscious awareness. The more we are consciously aware of our thoughts, feelings, words and actions, the more empowered we become naturally. Fundamentally, this because we are whatever we absorb. Therefore if we choose to absorb the positive around us and in the world, we will naturally attune our energies to that which serves us for the highest good. In the same way, we can feel the effects of absorbing the negatives. We can lose power with this negativity, even to the point of feeling lost ourselves. This happens if negative energy affects us for too long, or when there is too much of it.
Therefore it is important to consider what you are absorbing! Notice how this affects you every day. If you are drawn into or towards something that feels negative, then use the Reiki mantra. Even if you have bot been attuned to Reiki, these mantras will bring your focus onto what is truly important in your daily life. The more you repeat and practice these mantras, the more power you give them. In turn, the more you will find you subconsciously invite them to be present in your life.
HOW CAN REIKI HELP YOU?
Well, Reiki helps bring us into the present moment. It also helps us rebalance our energy by way of the chakras. These are spinning vortexes of light and coloured energy. We have them connected to our physical body at various locations. Understanding what Reiki is, therefore also means understanding the basis of the chakras.
There are seven major chakras. They known as the following: Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye and Crown. Although in actual fact there are many more which are located at various points throughout our energy field or ‘aura’. The chakras are connected to this as well as the various internal organs. And so, their function is vital to our very existence. Everything we absorb affects our chakras and their function. Therefore, it is desirable to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Also to adopt a set of beliefs that in turn support not only our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing, but our spiritual wellbeing too.
IDENTIFYING DIS-EASE
Reiki helps us identify the root cause of di-sease (a lack of peace) in each or all of our chakras as we learn to feel the various frequencies of energy that Reiki offers. Through the flow of Reiki’s wonderful healing essence, we can not only pinpoint the root cause of problems, but return peace to the core of the dis-ease, re-establishing a greater sense of wellbeing. So, we can offer ourselves and others the ability to understand in more depth why they were created in the first place.
If at the same time, we use the symbols too, we can increase the intensity of direct Reiki energy to help assist in the shift of consciousness. This in itself helps heal and address the true cause of our disharmony and dis-ease.
Reiki masters use the symbols to heal at a distance, or with the person present. But they can also send healing to animals, situations, plants, trees, fields, even mechanical items!
SELF CARE WITH REIKI
Reiki is one of the few therapies that we can use upon ourselves. It is a very valuable tool for everyone. We can use it at any time too. I myself have used Reiki whilst sitting on a train, whilst in the middle of a queue in a supermarket, in the midst of a heated discussion. And also, as a wonderful meditative practice to begin and end my day.
You can use your hands to apply Reiki but you can also use your eyes and the focus of your intention. Whatever you apply, Reiki to will work for the highest good. You do not need to set an intention for the outcome other than that. Reiki is non invasive, therefore in itself is harmless. That is why we must be aware of our conscious intentions. When working with this unique and wonderful energy, anything other than for the highest good is not from a pure Reiki source.
REIKI AND SPIRITUAL HEALING
I have taught many people over the course of more than 20 years as a Reiki Master-Teacher. Most of those who learnt Reiki went on to learn other methods of applying its wonderful healing energy. For example practices such as crystal healing, yoga, meditation, Shamanism, psychology, massage, reflexology and acupuncture, soul rescue work and more. In fact, there isn’t any form or technique of wellbeing where Reiki wouldn’t be of benefit!
Perhaps you would like to learn Reiki simply for yourself and your family (animals included). Perhaps you would like to begin to increase your consciousness awareness and develop a wellbeing practice that expands to include other modalities, Reiki really offers many insights that will enhance what you innately already know. It will help you access your own spirituality, bring a greater sense of wellbeing to the self, connect you with all living things and bring a improved sense of harmony to your life. At the same time, you will find it gently assisting in your own unique personal development and awareness of yourself as a living being; a spiritual essence inhabiting a physical form.
Reiki Bliss to All.
