What and Who are Your Spirit Animals?
SPIRIT ANIMALS, TOTEMS, ANIMAL GUIDES AND MORE!
You may have come across the term “ spirit animals ”, or “animal guides”. Sometimes even perhaps “animal totems”. You may wonder what the true essence of these meanings represents. In general, “animal guide” or “spirit guide” is a specific animal or guide that works with you. It encourages you and protects you on your journey. Wikipedia subcategorizes the meaning of each phrase used when referring to “Animal guides” or “Spirit guides” :
- Power animal, a New Age, neo-shamanic belief of a spirit that helps an individual
- Spirit guide, a spiritual entity that acts as a guide or protector to a human being
- Totem, in North American Indigenous cultures, a spirit or animal revered as sacred, that guides, helps, or protects individuals, lineages, and nations.
Getting our head around the concept of an actual animal spirit guide may seem somewhat far-fetched, But, in actual fact, science does provide us with evidence that DNA matches can be found between humans and many other animals – even plants!
SPIRIT ANIMALS- THE ORIGINS
If you are itching to know where and how the concept of “Animal or Spirit Guide” derived from, its origins are in Native American mythology. This is called: “Wakan Tanka” which means “great mystery”. This is in the sense that this is the supreme being and creator of the Lakota Sioux (A Native American Tribe). You can also often hear people referring to this as the “ Great Spirit”. It is also similar to the supreme beings found in the myths of many other North American peoples.
If we think about it, all living things are interconnected in many ways. Ways perhaps that we had never fathomed! The Native Americans in particular, believed that everything has its own spirit. We all share the same air in the universe. We all transcend energies with all parts of humanity, animals and nature. So, we are of course bound to be met by regular uncanny connections.
CONNECTED TO EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE
A planetary scientist and stardust expert Dr Ashley King confirms: “It is totally 100% true: nearly all the elements in the human body were made in a star and many have come through several supernovas.”
Dr R. David Hamilton also tells us, “In the deepest way, you are connected to a leaf on a tree, a stone in a garden, a raindrop, other people – your loved ones, friends, colleagues, and even your enemies – to animals, plants, insects, birds and fish, to a crystal of ice on one of Saturn’s rings, and even to a piece of dust on the surface of a planet in a galaxy far, far away”.
Can you believe that most of the elements that make up the human body were formed through stars ? This may explain why so many of us feel familiar connections with others, whether pets or humans! And even something as simple as a flower or tree. You know that feeling of deja vu? Where you feel as if you have met someone before, yet it would have been impossible? This is very likely because you are connected through the same energy source vibration or soul group.
SPIRIT ANIMALS- PAST LIFE CONNECTIONS
This can further be exemplified through ancestral and past life connections, as well as reincarnation and chemistry. Animals are sensory creatures, and detect and know the sound of fear, danger, love and compassion. We have seen evidence of this when a dog barks at its owner and jumps with joy when they return home. Or a cat that meows to protect its territory, as well as wolves howling to warn about potential predators.
Another interesting notion is that when we put out a cry to the universe. Whether this is a happy, sad or angry cry, our animals know where to come. “Like attracts like “as they say! And this is why you will often find that when you have had an upset or are in need of a friend, an animal just turns up randomly. This also speaks for humans. We all inadvertently send out vibrations and energies unwittingly that connect us through the spiritual journey.
In shamanism the spirit can leave the body to enter the supernatural world to seek deeper insight. This insight can come from animal, spirit guides, as well as messages.
ANIMAL TOTEMS FOR YOU
Animal totems and spirit animals are also a way of finding out what your soul relates to. For instance, whilst one person may be drawn to butterflies. Another may have always felt an affinity with ducks or birds. This applies to any other particular animal you may feel a powerful connection with. The reason we can’t always explain why we feel such tremendous connections is merely because there is something about the animal or insect that resembles a part of our soul/psyche.
Many of us have a tribal instinct in one way or another! This is associated with indigenous and tribal societies. Tribes that can travel back centuries, but that we can also explore through shamanism or deep meditation. The origins of Shamanism come from Northern Europe and parts of Northern Asia and practices connection to the ethereal , often healing the sick, and connecting with spirits, alongside animal guides.
ANIMAL GUIDES COME IN DREAMS TOO
Something else to consider when trying to connect with your animal guide is that spiritual animals can also come to us through dreams. For example, one lady named Ruby who was a psychic therapist had been waiting for her soul mate. She had a powerful dream one night that she met her true love, yet he was in the form of a dog. However, Ruby noted that the dog was talking to her like a human would! And he was big, bold, fluffy, warm, loving and attentive with her, alongside being hugely protective.
After 8 weeks from the dream, she met the man of her dreams! He was uncannily a dog lover and also matched the personality traits Ruby had experienced in her dream. This just goes to prove that we are very likely share the souls of animals. Much of what we experience as humans, undoubtedly pertains to all living things in some form, whether it be a tree, a plant, a bee or a dog! There is a sense that we are all connected.
HOW TO KNOW MY SPIRIT ANIMALS
A Guide to find your true Animal Totems!
Remember that animal totems and guides are a spirit being, or a precious possession or object. We therefore need to be still and receptive to receive their full benefits. You can also discover the same amount of meaning in a sign or symbol, perhaps even a song or a place. The symbol of a tribe for example can help with connection, or perhaps even someone in your family, like a great Grandmother who you always wondered about.
Here are some things to practice:
1. PARANORMAL CONNECTIONS
Think about paranormal connections you have had with anyone or anything, to open a connection. This could be a bird, a spirit or a person. Write down the things that were going on at the time and what made you feel that “connection.”
2. FEEL THE REAL YOU
Pay attention to your energy and vibration. Relax and feel the inner being you are. Remember the old saying that “you don’t choose animals, they choose you”. We are often sending out a signal or vibration that we don’t realise attracts in. You could also try softly calling to the universe if you are in need of support. Ask your higher self or deity to show you what you need to know. “What animals are aware of me right now?” Or “What animals do I need around me?”
3. GET LIVELY WITH YOUR SENSES
You may then notice small things, such as a walk you go on where you see a deer or hear the sound of a fox . Pay attention to sounds or any visions you may get in your head.
4. GO FOR ANIMAL CARDS
Choose some good animal cards to help you learn. See what cards come up and which animals resonate with you. Research the meanings of any animals that trigger a link and connection with you.
5. DRAW YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL
If you are artistic , draw the animal you have in mind and connect with the meaning. But even if you are not artistic, you might be surprised at what happens if you just relax, close your eyes and draw!
6. USE PAST SPIRIT ANIMAL MEMORIES
It can sometimes also help us to think back to family pets or even recalling the first animal we ever formed a bond with. Simply ask if it resembled anything about your energy at the time? It can be handy to acknowledge these small factors, because if you suddenly see a white dove, you may know peace is coming after an argument. Or if you see a horse, it may be telling you it’s time for freedom or adventure. Soon you will know instantly what each animal means to you and those around you.
7. SPIRIT ANIMALS IN DREAMS
Always pay attention to animals in dreams. Often, they are the strongest messengers of all! Just like Ruby experienced.
Discovering your spirit animals can be like a sudden light opening on your journey. Connecting with your spirit animals, your animal totem and discovering your animal guides for yourself can give you a true feeling of reconnection to the source!
